Are you handy with a hoe, shovel and some seedlings? Do you have a green thumb? Then dig, plant, nurture, grow and reap your rewards when you sign up for the 2013 Betascapes Spring Garden Competition!
The annual Betascapes Spring Garden Spectacular will again launch at the Botanic Gardens in Rockhampton at 3.30pm on Monday 17 June 2013.
Chair of Council’s Parks and Recreation Committee, Councillor Cherie Rutherford, said this competition brought the best out in the region’s collective green-thumb.
“I love this competition as it showcases the talents of our dedicated gardeners and horticulturalists across our Region,” Cr Rutherford said.
“There are some amazing gardens out there, some that are really pieces of art, and you can see the long hours, hard work and the passion that people pour into their patches.
“As any one with a green thumb will tell you, Spring is a fantastic time for showing off our much loved gardens and this competition will do exactly that.”
With $9500 worth of vouchers and prizes up for grabs this year, Cr Rutherford said she knew all the competition categories would be strong.
“Again this year, we’ll be celebrating all forms of gardens in ten different categories. There are some new categories such as Best Lifestyle Garden and Best Young Gardener/s as well as some of the old favourites such as Best Use of Native Plants and Best Flower Garden,” Cr Rutherford said.
“We’ll have prizes for five district winners who will each take home a $1000 Betascapes voucher, and from these five gardens the judges will select a Grand Champion who will score a $2000 Betascapes voucher.
“Whether your speciality is beautiful flowers, organic produce or any other form of gardening, it’s time to get some dirt under your fingernails and show off your pride and joy!
“If you enjoy gardening, then have a go at this competition - it doesn’t cost anything to enter and you might just take home a prize.”
