Three Rockhampton charities are set to share $15,651 raised through the Bike 4 Life Charity Rides in 2012 and 2013.

The Sporting Wheelies and Disabilities Association, the Carinity Communities – Wahroonga counselling centre and the Prostate Support Group will use the funds for local projects and support.

Bike 4 Life spokesperson Kim Martin used the cheque handovers as a means to promote next year’s charity ride, which will be held on Sunday, September 14.

“This year around 250 riders participated in the event held in July, but the organising committee is aiming for 500 riders in the 2014 ride which has been scheduled for September,” Mr Martin said.

“A big focus will be on building the Ergon 20km Tour de Town next year as a community participation event, especially for people keen to increase their activity levels through getting into cycling.”

Mr Martin said training programs for those wishing to get fit for the ride will be made available in preparation for the event in 2014.

“An element of fun will be introduced by encouraging riders to dress up in costumes for the 20km ride, with prizes for the most creative outfits on offer,” he said.
