Rockhampton Road Runners are encouraging people to take the first step towards a healthier lifestyle by commencing a weekly session specifically targeting beginners and intermediate walkers/runners. The sessions will provide a welcoming and supportive environment for those wanting to become more active. "It will allowing people to start with walking or jogging and make progress towards their fitness goals" explained club president Leah Cheal. "Despite being a running club, we encourage walking, particularly for beginners who need a progressive mindset - one step at a time" she said.
The Rockhampton Road Runners are excited to add this new session to their weekly club runs, which currently take place on Tuesday (CQUniversity Oval at 6pm) and Thursday (5:45 at Huish drive), along with additional weekly sessions for more advanced runners training for distance events. The sessions will offer an opportunity for those wanting to start (or re-start) running to take those first steps in a totally self-paced and encouraging environment. "The aim is to encourage people into activity, and being surrounded by likeminded people within a supportive environment can make a huge difference" said Leah.
Rocky "Rookie" Road Runners sessions are held on Monday afternoons at 5:30pm. Participants meet at the Huish Drive playground and typically complete one or two laps of the riverside walk. It is self-paced, but experienced runners are on hand to offer advice and assist with individual training objectives. Participation is free, although those who regularly attend are encouraged to become members of the Road Runners club for insurance purposes.
