Rocky River Run Sunday 7 June

June 4th, 2009

I have attached the following extract from a media release in relation to the Rocky River Fun Run be staged this Sunday 7 June 2009

The challenge is coming to an end for Stanwell Power Station and Rockhampton Regional Council.
Mayor of Rockhampton Regional Council, Cr Brad Carter accepted Rockhampton Rotary Club and
Stanwell Power Station’s challenge to generate a greater percentage of staff participation in the Rocky
River Run on Sunday, June 7, 2009.
“The Rocky River Run has provided Council with a fantastic opportunity to get all staff involved in
improving their way of living by staying motivated, getting fit, and maintaining good health over the
long term,” Cr Brad Carter said.
“The challenge set by Stanwell Power Station will be a difficult one to defeat however the response
from our employees has been exceptional.
“I believe the nominations are quite close, the outcome will be interesting and released on the day of
the event,” he said.
People are invited to participate in a 5km or 10km fun run/walk to kick start their fitness regime. A
21km half marathon is available for the more daring runners. All partakers are encouraged to invite
family and friends or bring a pet along to enjoy the event.
The organisations will be judged on the maximum personnel and relative participation on a
proportionate basis, with the winning organisation’s flag flown at the opponent’s establishment for one
week.
The challenge will provide further encouragement for local people to get healthier in 2009 through the
Kickstart CQ program. This interactive website www.kickstartcq.com.au allows the community to get
involved and commit to introducing a healthy habit into their lifestyle.
Join in the challenge and meet at Customs House, Quay Street for the Rocky River Run at 8.00am on
Sunday, June 7. All funds raised will go towards supporting local charities working for Youth Suicide
Prevention.
A membership form for Rocky River Run can be obtained by visiting the website

After The Cyclone

March 16th, 2009

Cyclone Hamish created a bit of havoc with my fitness program and I lost a bit of momentum due to rain and extra commitments. However, I am back on schedule and have resumed a regular morning walking program along with regular gym work. I have now lost 4.5 kilograms in weight. Shirts are still a bit tight but trousers are starting to feel quite loose.

I have been inspired by many others that I have met while walking and Alison and the Heart Foundation have been doing a tremendous job with their efforts particularly the bare foot bowling last Sunday at Athelstone Bowls Club. Nearly $1,000 was raised for the Heart Foundation during this one event.

This coming sunday morning (22 March), I will be out of town, so I will not be able to participate in the morning beach walk at Farnborough Beach Access Number 8.

Overall, I have noticed many people and organisations becoming much more active in their health and well being efforts which is indeed, very impressive.

Progress

February 15th, 2009

11 people participated in the beachwalk at Farnborough Beach (Access No. 8) this morning (Sunday 16 February). We are all walking at the same location next week and any newcomers are very welcome at 6.00am on Sunday morning. Murrie Conaghan has volunteered to provide a fruit breakfast on our return at her and Tom’s house at Todd Avenue.

This year, I have now lost 3.1 kilograms in weight, had 24 sessions at the gym, accumulating 11hours of cardio vascular exercises, undertaking 200 sets of exercises lifting a total weight of 95 tonnes. I am walking almost every morning as well.

Next Saturday 21 February, the Rec Club is hosting a walk at 7.00am starting at the Rec Club, Seaspray. Anyone can join this.

Friday Walk Frenchville - 6.30am 6 February

February 3rd, 2009

Join Cr Tony Williams and I for a walk on Friday morning 6 February at the Vince Lester Walking Track in Frenchville. Tony has a regular group of walkers who wish to extend an invitation to new and potential early morning walkers. This will also be a great opportunity to have a chat to Tony and I.

Great Walk This Morning

February 1st, 2009

10 of us walked for 3.6 kilometres from Farnborough Beach Access No.8 to the Surf Life Savers Club and back this morning with a lively brisk wind off the sea. It was great to have members of the community join me and some took advantage to raise isues with me.

Those who did the walk with Gail and I included, Mr and Mrs Tom Young, Diane Barnes, Lyn Laskus, Paul Florian, Mrs Callaghan, Warwick and Stacey. Many others indicated a keen interest but must have stayed indoors due to the weather. We agreed that we will now make this a regular Sunday Morning walk where I am happy for more to join us at the time slot of 6.00am.

At the conclusion of our walk we were greeted by Petrina Murphy from the Mirror, armed with her camera to catch the event.

1 Million Kilometre Challenge

January 30th, 2009

Robert Schwarten and I wish to issue a challenge to the community to walk, jog, cycle or swim a total of 1 million kilometres by the end of July 2009. Just sign up to Kick Start CQ, make your pledge and record your progress.

Also, please join me for a walk this Sunday at 6.00am 1 February at Farnborough Beach Access No. 8 near the Kerr St intersection with Farnborough Road Yeppoon.

Beachwalk with Mayor 6.00am Sunday 1 February

January 25th, 2009

I wish to extend an invitation to anyone who wishes to join me for a beachwalk at 6.00am on Sunday 1 February. We can meet at the Farnborough Beach Access No. 8 which is just off Farnborough Road slightly south of the Kerr Street intersection.  Just turn up on the morning and we can walk as a group up or down the beach.

On a serious note, I have been able to maintain a regular routine at the gym, manage a sensible diet and take beach walks every morning.  As a result, I can feel my health and well being improving enormously.

January 18th, 2009

I am committed to supporting Kickstart CQ as a health and wellbeing initiative for the community of Rockhampton Regional Council.

As part of this commitment I have set myself a range of targets to improve my overall health and wellbeing. Through the Kickstart CQ website, I have pledged to introduce the following healthy habits into my lifestyle:
- Regular gym workouts
- Reduce the cm’s around my waist (losing 20kg)
- Regular morning walk
- Reduce my alcohol intake
- Increasing my daily steps by reducing my golf handicap from 25 to 18

It will be my intention to publicise and record my progress on Kickstart CQ website for all to see. I have already commenced my program which started on January 8 and I am already feeling a lot healthier.

In addition to my own efforts and pledges, I am challenging the community leaders to join the program, make a pledge and encourage our whole community to improve health and wellbeing.

Kickstart CQ will be a major priority for me and I am delighted with the strong support that I have already seen from the community and across Council itself.

Kickstart your involvement and make a pledge now.
